DO YOU GUYS SPRAY PAINT OR USE A BRUSH AND ROLLER?

Spray paint or brush and roller

So, this is a great question to be asked so that you, our client can adapt and know what will be done to your property. A simple answer is that it varies a lot on circumstances and surfaces since some cannot be sprayed and can only be brushed and rolled! Let me elaborate and give you more details but just know this, we spray as much as we can since it is a better finish like automobile finish and it is 1000 times faster and more effective.

LET’S START WITH INTERIOR SURFACES.

I will explain our process in two different ways, one being new construction and the other home repaints.

Let’s start with new construction! On new construction we always, always use a sprayer for primer coat on the ceilings and finish coat on the ceilings but we always use a roller after it's been sprayed, we use a roller to distribute the paint more evenly and better into the sheetrock itself. Also in new construction we use a sprayer 100% of the time when painting trim ( crown-molding, baseboards, doors, window sills, etc. ) and cabinets, in this scenario we never backroll it since what we are trying to achieve here is automobile finish and mirror looking. And lastly the walls are 100% of the time done with brush and roller since is the last thing we do and everything else is technically done, so we don't want to have to mask everything else, so our primer coat and our finish coat are both brushed and rolled and it always comes out perfect.

Now for home repaints. In home repaints is a totally different story since of course our clients are living inside the home and there’s a lot of furniture, belongings, countertops, floors, etc. So when it comes to interior painting in home repaints we try to use a sprayer as minimal as possible. The ceilings are brushed and rolled. The trim is brushed and rolled as well with a special paint from Sherwin Williams which is called Proclassic which is a self leveling paint to where when it dries it levels out and removes brush marks and roller marks, this is as close to a spray finish as we can get without of course masking the entire house, always if our client asks for it we will do it, but the price will go up a bit. Now cabinets are always sprayed since they have to be perfect to brings your kitchen, bathrooms or laundry a beautiful look. And lastly walls are brushed and rolled as well.

WHAT ABOUT EXTERIOR SURFACES?

So for exterior surfaces new construction and home repaints go hand and hand the same.

When painting soffit, fascia and when we paint gutters we always spray paint those to give it a nice finish to them, but they can also be rolled and brushed but will take about 2-3 times longer to do. When priming and painting brick we always use a sprayer followed by the backroll method as previously stated, this process makes sure that we get in between all the crevices. Siding is almost always sprayed when prepped correctly to prevent overspay since it can be done a whole lot quicker and looks better, but can also be done with brush and roller. Now stucco on the other hand, can never get sprayed since the sprayer does not push paint into the little holes that stucco has, so the best option for this is to push the paint with a brush and roller. Now doors, garage doors, shutters, posts, etc. pretty much everything that is considered trim we always spray to achieve that nice finish.

WHAT FINISH OF PAINT DO YOU USE?

We use mainly for exterior jobs a Satin finish since is really good to clean and maintain without removing the paint since it has sheen to it. Flat finish we rarely use it unless doing really old homes where there are a lot of imperfections, Flat finish paint is really good to hide those. And Gloss finish we rarely use since it is really shiny and it looses its sheen a whole lot faster than the others when the sun hits on it a lot.

Now for interior jobs, for ceilings we prefer to use Flat finish, on trim and cabinets we always use Semi-Gloss either in Latex or Oil-Base, and for the walls we always suggest using Satin/Eggshell finish specially if you have pets and kids that might dirty up the wall is really easy to clean.

WHAT SPRAYER DO YOU GUYS USE AND WILL YOU PROTECT MY PROPERTY?

Right as of this moment we are using the Graco 390PC for everything that is trim related like doors, cabinets, shutters, etc. And we use our bigger machine which is the Graco 695 which we use for big exterior jobs, to paint ceilings, etc. just anything that requires a lot of power and running time.

And yes we will definitely protect your home like if it is our own, when spraying inside we will cover floors, light fixtures, countertops, sinks, microwaves, fridge, etc. And when working outside everything that is not getting painted will be covered with plastic and tape. Here at Yeras Painting quality is our priority and customer satisfaction is what moves us every day.
